I don't know where I'd have been without Fulham Osteopaths over the years in which they've helped me recover from various different illnesses and injuries, mild and severe. I've been going to The Fulham Osteopath for over a decade and I recommend them unreservedly. I've been treated by a number of osteopaths there, and they have all been fantastic. My regular osteopath is Melinda who is completely brilliant. She has also treated both my children (for teething, sleep issues etc.). In the past, when I lived on the other side of London, I occasionally strayed from Fulham Osteopaths and always regretted it. There are many osteopathy practices closer to home but I cannot compromise.

What Happens at the Osteopath?
First of all the osteopath needs to take the time with you to listen carefully to your case history. The osteopath will discuss with you the issue/s that you have come in to talk about, the symptoms, when they developed etc. and any changes in either the symptoms or your general health since the onset of the problem. The osteopath will also ask you questions about your general health, any medication you take and your past medical history. This allows us to build up an "holistic" picture, looking not only at the symptoms, but also at your lifestyle etc. so that we can understand why the problem has arisen.
Then the osteopath needs to do an examination of your body in order to make an evaluation of your physical condition. The osteopath will look at your body, assess your posture and observe how your spine and other joints move.
Any appropriate tests, such as taking your reflexes or blood pressure, will be performed, and then your osteopath will gently feel the tone of your muscles, and examine the joints of the body in order to make an holistic diagnosis. The osteopath will then discuss his or her findings with you.
If it is appropriate, then you will have an osteopathic treatment on your first visit, and a plan will be discussed with you about the need for follow ups (if required), exercises or lifestyle advice.

I have had chronic hip pain for 10 years which has limited my ability exercise and affected my gait. Despite having seen many therapists over the years I was unable to resolve this issue. After the third consultation with Elyse something has shifted. The pain is almost gone and my range of movement has greatly improved. After each session I have felt deeply relaxed and pain free. I am so impressed with the results of her work with me. Her ability to tune into my body shows great awareness and sensitivity. I cannot recommend her highly enough as an osteopath. Fulham Osteopaths is the solution ! I booked an appointment after having been recommended by a dear friend. Immediately I felt at home and had a warm welcome. I’ve been treated by Melinda, who was the warmest, sweetest and most caring osteopath I have ever met. She didn’t see the individual problem, but instead looked at the whole picture and so all of my body and through some gentle treatment and explanation as she went along, she simply fixed me! I remember limping into the practice that morning and walking out straight upright and pain free. I was impressed with the whole approach and immediate results and also that they didn’t try to sell me another booking at all, instead Melinda just gave me a warm hug and wished me to stay well. Will definitely and wholeheartedly recommend Fulham Osteopaths to anyone who is looking for treatment by safe, competent and honest hands.

With more than 30 years of experience in the field, including teaching at one of the most prestigious colleges of osteopathy in Britain, she brought an extraordinary set of skills, intuition, professionalism and calmness into her treatment. She has a fantastic touch, knows exactly where to work on without having to point anything out leaving no stones unturned. I left the treatment feeling taller and definitely more mobile. I would highly recommend Melinda and her clinic for adults and babies alike, for those in acute pain or those just needing an extra inch in their spine. I came to know about cranial osteopathy for babies after meeting Melinda and Elyse at the breastfeeding cafe. Both Melinda and Elyse observed that my 4 month old daughter was very tense in her upper body and wasn’t relaxed. I had struggled to get her to relax and feed sufficiently which is what took me to the breastfeeding cafe initially. However, had I not, I would have assumed that my daughters uptight posture was normal. After a couple of sessions with Elyse I have seen an immense improvement in how relaxed my daughter is. She is able to spend more time doing tummy time and actually enjoys it too as she can now explore her surroundings without being so rigid... she’s now moving the way she should have been from birth. Not to mention our feeding sessions have been so much calmer. Also, due to a complicated ventouse delivery my daughter had some misshaping of her head. Although the GP said it would improve with time, I have noticed a significant improvement with her head shape in just a few sessions. I would highly recommend Elyse as she has a great demeanour with babies; she was professional and patient. My daughter also loved the toys in the room, which were so helpful on the occasions I forgot my daughters favourite toys at home 😀 Many thanks to Melinda and Elyse!

During early pregnancy I went to see Hanna Evans for acupuncture to help with my morning sickness and exhaustion. She was great and I felt so much better after every session. I only wish I had gone to see her earlier. In late pregnancy I went to see her again and was very impressed by the results. She is very knowledgeable and gives very helpful take home advice on nutrition and general wellbeing. I also took my baby to see Melinda Cotton after he was born for a check up and the appointment was very thorough and he really enjoyed it! He was a much happier baby afterwards. A great local clinic with a very family friendly vibe. Very supportive for new mums!

I am the mother of six year old twins who were born extremely premature. Because of the prematurity my son has complex medical needs. We have been visiting Melinda Cotton at Fulham Osteopaths regularly since my little boy came home from the hospital. Melinda is the most professional, experienced, kind osteopath I know. Through the years she has helped my son immensely with many of his health issues (such as postural and movement difficulties, reflux, and sleeping). Melinda has the most gentle and healing touch and my boy is always looking forward to seeing her. She is incredibly knowledgeable and generous with her time; she even liaises with the other professionals who help my son offering her precious expertise. I can not recommend Melinda highly enough. The practice she runs is an oasis of peace and calm, and from the moment we walk through the doors and we are greeted by the ever smiling Angela we feel serene and well looked after.

After years of on-off physio due to frequent back pain I was recommended to see Melinda at the Fulham Osteopaths. I knew little about Osteopathy at the time but even after 1 session with Melinda the pain was significantly better and after 5 sessions completely gone - an amazing feat and something that physio and exercise never quite was able to do. Melinda was most professional, kind and clearly hugely knowledgeable. She was able to quickly find, release and realign the areas so that I felt taller, pain free and back to how my body should be at the end of the session. I was so convinced of her capabilities that I brought my 2 children for a check and she was able to correct a postural issue my daughter also had. Needless to say I am most grateful her and to have been recommended osteopathy and Melinda. I cannot recommend her highly enough for adults and children alike!!!

She is extremely knowledgable about all aspects of physiological wellbeing for babies and could pick up on subtle issues that can impact the baby’s optimal development. I have also been treated by Cedric during my pregnancy. His treatment provided me with a lot of relief when there were no conventional treatment options.

There are not enough words to describe how excellent Melinda is. Melinda started helping our son when he was 4 months old for a left eye ptosis and a slight flat head as he was bent on the left side of his body whilst being in my womb. We have started seeing Melinda every week and we have seen a lot of improvement. As I also suffered from pain in my joints and muscles (from head to toe: tight neck, elbows, positioning, stiff hip joints etc) that were due to the pregnancy and post pregnancy but also from some other small traumas, Melinda helped me as well. I couldn't believe that after one session I felt alive and vibrant again. Melinda is a really wonderful, experienced and passionate ostheopath who looks at the full picture of the problem rather than just where you have pain, and treats it accordingley. I couldn't recommend her enough for children but also adults (especially mumies). Also the atmosphere at the practice is wonderful, Angela at reception makes everyone feel happy! All the team of ostheopaths are really amazing and kind, which is very hard to find these days!

Wonderful experience! I’ve suffered for hip and lower back pain many years, then I meet Chiara at Fulham Osteopaths. She helped me so much with my posture and now i’m finally pain free! My GP recommended I see Melinda when I was struggling with post-natal hip problems and I couldn't be happier with her treatment of me. Half a dozen or so friends have since said that they love Melinda too. She has 30 years of experience and uses a range of techniques to treat problems holistically. I would highly recommend seeing Simon Brocard at this practice for any issues with a newborn baby, especially tongue tie. My daughter has been seen twice by him so far and after both visits I noticed an immediate improvement in her range of motions and her feeding. The tongue tie release alone wouldn't have been enough - she still wasn't able to use her tongue fully after the release, so feeding was still very painful. Simon was able to diagnose where the tension was, and start working on it immediately. He has given me exercises to do with her at home, and I can really see them working. My baby is more relaxed - she's not holding as much tension in her neck, so she has more flexibility when feeding now. She can also stick her tongue out now, which she couldn't do before seeing Simon. I honestly think I might have given up breastfeeding without Simon's help. I can't recommend him highly enough. He's a specialist in tongue tie in babies, but I think it would be worth seeing him for any issues, especially following a long or difficult birth. I am definitely a cranial-osteopathy convert - it works!

Melinda has been fantastic with my baby. He was a breech baby and very unsettled in his first few weeks. Our maternity nurse recommended that we visit Melinda to see if she could help. Melinda recognised straight away that our baby had a tongue tie and that this was why he wasn't feeding properly. Once this had been addressed our baby was a different child. Melinda also diagnosed a hip issue resulting from the breech position during pregnancy. She has been great at improving the hip mobility and works very sympathetically and gently. My 4 month old son was suffering from reflux and was very sensitive to touch, he always screamed whenever we touched his neck or back. I had not noticed but he was also a banana shape when he laid down flat, and had a crick in his neck which meant he never looked over his right shoulder. When ever i held him he arched his back and he was never happy unless in constant movement either rocking or bouncing.He also suffered from constipation and therefor was upset and angry, with a belly ache. Until going to see the osteopaths i thought it was just normal, just a newborn baby that cried a lot. oh my god what a difference, i can hardly believe it! After the first session he filled his nappy before we even left! i found he was often exhausted after a session and always had a good sleep and filled his nappy. Once the osteopath explained what was wrong with him and what they were doing, it all made sense. Understanding whats going on with my baby helps me feel less stressed about the constant crying or constant vomiting. I thought it was just my luck, a tough baby, something i would just have to get through. But you wouldn't recognize him now, he is straight and not a banana, he doesn't arch his back when i hold him, his reflux is diffidently much better. His constipation has massively improved, his personality is calmer and less upset all the time. His neck is better, he can now look both ways and you can now see his neck rather than a head on shoulders!. If i had known what a difference it would make, i would have done it earlier and saved myself a lot of time and sleepless nights. The staff were so wonderful and caring, even though he screamed when we came through the door most sessions!. There are so many lovely toys in the clinic (we even stole one by mistake - and returned it the next week!) to keep the little ones busy and lovely mobiles hanging above the treatment tables to distract them. The nappy changing area was equipped with everything i needed and i was allowed to breast feed him .before going i hadn't realized how stressed and anxious i was to go any where with him, and i was always nervous about new places. but this is a new mums haven. I couldn't have asked for any more. I am more relaxed mother now with a calmer happier baby. I would highly recommend cranial osteopathy for babies at this clinic. It has not only provided my child with greater physical well being, increased happiness, and contentment, but has given me greater peace of mind (and more sleep!).

Melinda and Andrew have looked after me for over 20 years. I first visited the practice to help with Migraines and Asthma. A few years later I visited the Osteopaths with back problems and knee problems after a road traffic accident and now both of my sons are being seen by team. Melinda and her team have treated both of my sons since birth and not only for back and posture issues but, asthma and eczema too. The results have been amazing. I have also had Acupuncture there and an AMAZING massage from one of the massage therapists that works there. I've been going to Fulham Osteopaths for over a decade and I recommend them unreservedly. I've been treated by a number of osteopaths there, and they have all been fantastic. My regular osteopath is Melinda who is completely brilliant. She has also treated both my children (for teething, sleep issues etc.). In the past, when I lived on the other side of London, I occasionally strayed from Fulham Osteopaths and always regretted it. There are many osteopathy practices closer to home but I cannot compromise.

I just finished a one hour introductory consultation with one of their many osteopaths. I have had much experience with chiropractors and, unfortunately, some back problems. It wasn't until this visit that I really felt cared for and learned more about how to relax, breath, and move my muscles the correct way. Doctor also gave a wonderful spine and upper body massage (light) and adjustment. Only 67 quid too...sure beats harley street. Oh, and the doctors and reception were really nice and fun too! I don't even know why I am only giving them 4 stars, I guess I will wait until further visits and see how it all ends up.

Anyone can walk in and ask for free advice. There is always one doctor ready to talk, and sometimes to give a free consultation too. Even if the problem is not something Fulham Osteopaths can help with, they always recommend someone that can. People very quickly recognise the business as a trustworthy place for professional health advice, and return.Relationship first
Patients stick with the same doctor for each treatment. This builds a strong relationship, and can lead to friendships outside. Once treatment is complete, patients still come back, albeit less often, because of the strong relationship that was built. This principle should be the same in all businesses: Support should be given by one person consistently and the same person that opened a deal should close it.Telephone Expertise
No waiting. That’s the rule. During business hours someone is always manning the telephone. Voicemails are replied to within 30 minutes. Appointments are made instantly, and schedules were fitted around the needs of the patient. Having an up-to-date, instantly searchable database is the key to telephone success. It enables the service to become personalised at a large scale. Patients feel welcome, known and part of the gang.
• Note if you are going to have a client database, it needs to be backed up, encrypted and follow laws and regulations.
Email after 6 months
Dentists don’t have to be the only ones sending you 6 month reminders. Fulham Osteopaths do that too, but write it personally and include a discount coupon. Each email includes a photograph of the patient’s doctor, is addressed to them directly and has the date of their last appointment. Could this be applied to other businesses? With smart data management, yes.A coffee shop, for example, could have a customer reward card. This would record when they come in, what they buy, and who served them. If they haven’t come in for 6 months, send an email:

• Once you have your database system setup, normally it’s pretty easy to schedule the task of exporting lists to excel, and from there you can upload it to MailChimp and send such an email with ease.
• Seasonal Cards Every Christmas, each doctor writes cards to their favourite patients with a discount voucher inside. Normally about 100 – 200 per doctor. These are handwritten messages, some of them in great length, and were more of a thank you note than any kind of promotional activity.
Not every business could do it, but where you can, you should. It’s like a final confirmation that your company is human.

SMS Advertising for Bad Times
Years hasn’t gone by without ups and downs. Whilst the strong focus on building relationships and loyalty has helped during recessions (and they’ve seen more than one), they do on the very rare occasion bring out the marketing weapon of SMS Advertising. Permitted to be used only once every 6 months per doctor, a text-message is sent out to every patient with a discount code. This has a modest conversion rate and helps boost up the business during tough times.
Local Press
As I mentioned in the beginning, Fulham Osteopaths is a local business. Therefore its market is within a twenty mile radius and it maintains its brand reputation through local editorial. The business frequently holds interviews with local journalists, and networks amongst local companies and at school meetings (Mums spread the word!). It also participates in many local projects, community events and seasonal activities to just make sure people know that it’s there when they need it.
For businesses that aren’t localised such as technology services, there are still similar activities you could do. Find a MeetUp group, present at Universities, join associations or help related charities.
I love Fulham Osteopaths because it’s a gentle reminder as to what a business can be. Small, nimble, local, fun, friendly, helpful and great. Mimos Pillows for Flat Head Syndrome
I work with many babies that have developed “flat heads”, either positional plagiocephaly or brachycephaly. These babies usually have some degree of neck tension that often in my experience contributes to the development of flat head. Don’t forget that advice to reposition a baby’s head regularly and tummy time are very important.
Newborn babies and young babies spend many hours asleep. It is impossible for a parent to constantly reposition their baby’s head, and it can be difficult to reduce the time a baby is lying on his or her back. Here I have found that a Mimos pillow can help.
The Mimos pillow is a well designed. It reduces the pressure on the back and sides of a baby’s head, and the shape of the pillow keeps the baby’s neck and neck nicely positioned. It is also made from a breathable material, comfortable for baby and reassuring for parents.
A Mimos pillow can be used as part of a care process parents can use to help prevent flat head, stabilise an existing flat head and support the improvement of flat head in babies.
