Melinda Cotton, Practice Principal

Melinda Cotton DO., Consultant Osteopath, is one of Fulham’s most experienced osteopaths having graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 1989 together with her husband Andrew. On graduating she established Fulham Osteopaths as a place where osteopaths could be nurtured and develop their practice of osteopathy to a level of accomplishment that would make the founder of osteopathy, A. T. Still very proud.

For a number of years Melinda was a clinic tutor at the British School of Osteopathy and later ran one of it’s community projects for the care of the elderly in Covent Garden. She regularly writes for Fulham and Putney NCT (National Childbirth Trust) newsletter, and the South London Twins Club, contributing articles on birth, cranial osteopathy, breastfeeding, self care tips for mothers and other health related topics.

Melinda enjoys the diversity and development that comes through working with all kinds of people from babies and children, through to expectant mothers, busy mums, office workers, musicians, artists and the elderly. All kinds of people come to see her with all kinds of problems.

Melinda’s work is very gentle. She uses all osteopathic approaches and techniques, including cranial osteopathy and classical osteopathic work, in a way that is in tune with each person’s individual needs. If you ever have a treatment with Melinda, one of the things you will notice is that her hands just seem to “know” where the problem is. Her hands will give your body that feeling of confidence, and the sense that once she has found the important areas to address, it will only be a matter of time before things improve.

Melinda enjoys complex problem solving, often describing herself as an “Osteopathic Sherlock Holmes ” which is why one of her roles at Fulham Osteopaths is to offer a second opinion service, both to existing and new patients of the practice. Many of the patients that are referred to her have been putting up with a particular problem for along time, and wonder whether osteopathy, or her particular approach may be able help them move forwards.

Her breath of skills combined with an inquisitive mind are perfect for trying to understand why a problem exists and what is blocking a persons own self healing mechanisms. Refreshingly she firmly believes there are no hopeless cases, and that there is always room for improvement. Thoughtful osteopathic care, combined with good sound advice and education are the hallmarks of her approach.

Melinda is registered with Bupa, Axa-PPP and all other major health insurance companies.
